Westmeath senior hurling star, Niall O’Brien has failed in his bid to have a two-week suspension lifted and will now miss the Leinster quarter-final against Wexford at Cusack Park next Sunday.
O’Brien received a two-week suspension when he was sent off in the Leinster under 21 encounter against Offaly on Wednesday, 27 May, ruling him out of inter county action until 10 June. He sought to have the suspension overturned at a Leinster Council hearing on Thursday evening, but the red card issued by Wexford referee, Brian O’Leary was upheld.
