A superb point by Derek McNicholas with the last puck of the game sealed a place in the Westmeath senior hurling final for Lough Lene Gaels. McNicholas’ point, deep in injury time, gave The Gaels a narrow two-point win over Clonkill after a massive battle between these two sides in this tense senior hurling semi-final played in TEG Cusack Park, last Sunday afternoon.
This game was never a classic because there was so much at stake. In a very low scoring encounter Clonkill led by one at the break, 0-8 to 1-4, after Marcus Kennedy had fired in an early goal for The Gaels.
