Westmeath unable to finish the job as late goal earns Carlow a draw

In what can only be described as a poor start to their National Football League Division 4 campaign, Westmeath’s senior footballers were held to a draw by a relentless Carlow side at TEG Cusack Park last Sunday. 

Lake County have targeted promotion from the basement tier as a major goal this year, but already it looks a major challenge as they struggled against a physically superior Carlow outfit last Sunday, conceding a late goal just after they had made a breakthrough. Goal scorer supreme, James Dolan had just fisted a high ball to the net for a score that appeared to have given Westmeath the winning start they craved, before Carlow charged up field for substitute Shane O’Neill to score a wonderful injury-time goal.
