Jason Keelan: The doors of hope are unlocked for the Gaels. Can they seize their opportunity in time?

The 27 October of this year will be the 85th birthday of one of the greatest comedians in John Cleese. I’ve referenced the work, The Life of Brian, before where Cleese, Michael Palin, and co changed comedy forever. Cleese is a man of famous lines, on and off the screen.

One of those lines, “you don’t have to be the Dalai Lama to tell people that life is about change” will have some potential meaning on that date in TEG Cusack Park when Lough Lene Gaels and Castletown-Geoghegan battle it out to become the new senior hurling champions for 2024. There will be change in Westmeath but what that change will be is unknown for the meantime. Victory for the Black and Ambers would be their fifth title this century. For the Gaels, it would be just their second. Castletown have the upper-hand in terms of experience with one win and three final defeats in recent years. Regardless, a change is coming and a new name will be on the trophy.
