Appeal launched for stroke victim (51)

On the evening of April 21, 2024, outgoing and bubbly Mullingar woman Lorraine Kelleghan (51) began to feel unwell. She was rushed to Midlands Regional Hospital, Mullingar where she presented with all the signs of a stroke. Since then, it has been a long and arduous journey for the much-loved local woman and her family. Now her family and friends are asking for help to allow Lorraine live a life of dignity at home and to continue with her therapies.

On arriving at the Emergency Department, Lorraine’s NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale/ Status) reading was 22, signifying a severe stroke. She then received thrombolysis, a medical treatment to dissolve dangerous blood clots in blood vessels and, although this was successful, her NIHSS reading remained at 18, indicating a moderate to severe stroke.
