What is the most important and will also be the most interesting event organised by Westmeath Archaeological and Historical Society – their 8th Annual Conference, will take place on Saturday next, 12 April, in the Greville Arms Hotel, and it will be of very special interest to everyone in Westmeath this year.
The theme is “The Big House in Westmeath – Origin, decline and survival” and since the county had a sizeable number of notable “big houses”, some with remarkable stories to tell, Saturday’s Conference is unmissable if you have an interest in the history and current state of the many such houses in the county. Belvedere House may now be best known but little more than a century ago, it was one of the smallest.
