Copper Face Jacks is the mecca of Dublin nightlife for culchies, nurses and guards. The nightclub was founded by an ex-guard in 1996 and has defined every big night out in the big smoke for country people since.
Coppers is named after John Scott, a barrister who climbed the Irish political ranks on a step-ladder of corruption. He became known as ‘copper-face Jack’ for his ruddy-faced rants in court and parliament. His copper complexion was the result of easy living and hard-drinking as one of the high-flying figures amongst the super elite. Tipperary-born Scott was elected Mullingar MP in 1769 despite having no real connection to the town.
