Creatives Confirmed for Literary Festival

The line-up for the inaugural Mullingar Literary Festival has been announced.

“We are incredibly excited to announce our line up of guests for the inaugural Mullingar Literary festival in July, a whole swathe of ‘wish-list’ talent that we hoped for,” said PRO Don Mortell.

“We’ll have music by the fabulous Cronin, the sultry jazz styling of Raimonda, written word pieces by the Poetry Kiln Collective and our very own Inklings writing group. There will be fascinating interviews with our wonderful local authors and an in-depth and incisive interview with the always entertaining Victoria Mary Clarke [wife of the late Shane McGowan].”

Those local authors include Patricia Gibney, Nicole Flattery, Anne Griffin, Lorraine Murphy, Dolores Keaveney, Tess McKevitt and Jimmy O’Connell. They will join Spoken word artist Olympio and music acts Cronin and Paulie Martin on the impressive programme. Don himself will interview the creatives while taking on many other roles and local historian Ruth Illingworth will show literary lovers the town, showcasing our rich creative culture – past and present.

“The Mullingar Literary Festival definitely has something for everyone,” Don said. “We handed out flyers at the Mullingar Saint Patrick’s Day parade and event booking details will be released shortly. This will truly be something to celebrate not only for our town but for our fabulous depth of literary history.”
