The death has taken place of popular Mullingar man, Aidan (Muggs) Mulligan.
Formerly of Lynn Road, Mullingar, Aidan – who was 60 – passed away on Thursday morning, 13 February, at Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore, after a short illness.
For almost 28 years, he co-ran the Spiced Bean café on Mary Street with Delia, feeding the masses of Mullingar who would drop in for breakfast, lunch, a quick coffee or chat.
There was an outpouring of tributes to both Aidan and Delia from the people of Mullingar and beyond in May 2024 when the café changed hands, such was their universal popularity.
For Westmeath Topic newsroom staff, Aidan was an invaluable font of knowledge for what was happening in Mullingar. He had his finger on the pulse of the goings-on in the town he knew and loved so well. He will be sorely missed.
Aside from his day-to-day presence at the Spiced Bean, Aidan was an avid follower of all-things music and sport. For decades, he commanded the playlists at birthdays, weddings and social events, both in Ireland and abroad, while his love for Irish rugby, golf and Manchester City was unmatched.
Predeceased by his parents, Martin and Nancy, Aidan will be deeply missed and remembered with love by his brothers Gerry and Marty, sister Orla, nephews Ben, Gerry and Martin, niece Emma, brother-in-law Paul, fondly remembered and missed by Delia, cousins and wide circle of friends.
