At Maguire Dental Care, the team understands that there has been an exodus from the medical card scheme. We would like to assure our patients that we will continue to see our patients under the scheme in 2025.
Medical Card Dental Entitlements
The Medical Card or Dental Treatment Services Scheme (DTSS) provides access to free dental treatment in Maguire Dental Care for those aged 16 years of age and over.
One free oral examination is available every calendar year, free emergency dental treatment for relief of pain and infection are available to all eligible patients. This includes 2 fillings per year and all extractions.
Other treatments such as root canal treatment on anterior teeth, periodontal treatment and extra fillings require prior approval. This is currently restricted to patients with special needs, high–risk patients and those who have greater clinical needs.
Children under 16 with medical cards are only eligible to be seen in their local HSE Dental Clinic on an emergency basis.
Dentures with Dr Javier Leon
Medical card holders are entitled to new dentures every 5 years. We are delighted to announce that Dr Javier Leon is welcoming those who require new dentures under the scheme. Contact our reception team who will check if you qualify and arrange an appointment.
PRSI Dental Entitlements
If you pay PRSI contributions, you may be entitled to a Free Dental Examination and subsidised Scale & Polish.
The Treatment Benefit Scheme is run by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection. It provides dental, optical and aural services to insured workers, the self-employed and retired people who have the required number of social insurance (PRSI) contributions.
