Mullingar Athletic’s men’s senior first team suffered a set-back in their promotion hopes when they were defeated 2-1 by Drogheda Boys in Marley’s Lane, Drogheda, last Sunday afternoon.
Athletic were forced to line out without two of their regular midfielders for this game as Brian Kavanagh was suspended, while Ben Shaw was injured. This meant manager Trevor Thompson had to reshuffle his side and regular striker Nathan McCullagh dropped into a midfield role. This gave young Nathan Scally an opportunity in the striker’s role and Scally showed enough skill and pace to suggest he will cause problems for teams at this level.
