An allocation of €2.5 million was granted by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) towards the delivery of the N4 upgrade on Friday, 28 March.
Westmeath County Council, along with Longford County Council, had announced in February 2025 that there was a preferred route from Mullingar to Roosky through County Longford and that Phase 3 of the project, the Design and Environmental Evaluation, had commenced.
