Westmeath ladies came so close to advancing in the TG4 All-Ireland football series after a comeback for the ages was all in vain as Wexford took the spoils in extra-time in McCauley Park in Enniscorthy, Wexford on Sunday afternoon last.
It took almost 100 minutes to separate the teams in this dramatic encounter as a nightmare beginning for the visitors was eventually overturned in the chaos of stoppage time. Unfortunately for the Midlanders, they could not build on the momentum and were ultimately undone by the direct running power of the home side, despite the best efforts of all in the away green kits.
