Happiness all round as students collect their Leaving Certificate results

The wait finally ended for Westmeath’s 1,382 Leaving Certificate students last Wednesday, 24 August, with the distribution of exams results to students throughout the county.
680 young women and 702 young men picked up their results, just two months after completing the gruelling series of exams, marking the end to chapter in their education.
Darragh Hogan from Columba College, Killucan was delighted with his results, having achieved who two A1 grades. He told Topic how he now hopes to advance his education by studying Engineering at Sligo Institute of Technology.
At the same school, Eugene Mugibwa said it was overwhelming to see all his hard work during the year pay off after repeating the series of exams. “I’m happy with this year after repeating. The first time I didn’t pass English and Irish and I was upset over that but the second year I put in a lot of work and passed both of them this year with good grades. Hopefully I will be going straight into college to a course in Bioscience and Chemistry in AIT.”
Adam McDermott also repeated his Leaving Cert and was happy with his result this time around. “I’m currently waiting for results of my interview for an Animal Care course at Dunboyne College of Further Education. After that, I’d like to progress onto Veterinary Nursing at Athlone Institute of Technology.”
At Loreto College Mullingar, former students Emily Jones from Mullingar and Cliodhna Daly from Fore were bursting with excitement after collecting their results.
Acing her exams with an impressive 625 points, Emily hopes to study Architecture in UCD, while Cliodhna was delighted with her 570 points. The science enthusiast hopes to leave Westmeath for the capital in the coming weeks and begin studying Human Health and Disease at Trinty College, Dublin.
Across Mullingar at Mullingar Community College there were plenty of happy faces as students collected their results bright and early. Among them was Courtney Nevin who said she was very happy with her results and said she planned to do Midwifery next year.
Courtney’s colleague Isabelle Muniz said she was more focused on the Beauty Technician PLC course at the same school.
CAO offers were made to Westmeath’s Leaving Certificates on Monday. Students hoping to study construction, technology or engineering at third-level faced an increase in points.
