Garrycastle exited the AIB Leinster Intermediate Football Championship at the last-four stage following an extremely controversial and cruel ending to their contest against Dublin champions, Naomh Mearnóg, in the capital last Saturday afternoon.
Garrycastle found the net with one minute of normal time to go to lead by one before the hosts scored a debatable point. Then a baffling refereeing call against the Westmeath side allowed a swift Portmarnock break and with it the winning point, followed sharply by the final whistle. Although Garrycastle finished with twelve wides and could have been more clinical, the game hinged on vital moments which went against them.
