At the age of 55, Mullingar native Joe McCabe discovered he had type one diabetes. Having first fallen into a depression, he decided to do something about it and started to walk, run and swim. 35 years on, he remains a regular at the 6.30am session in Mullingar Swimming Pool.
To celebrate Joe’s recent 90th birthday, friends and staff at the pool organised a special birthday breakfast in The Greville Arms Hotel.
