Marcus Kennedy scored 3-3 as Lough Lene Gaels won their opening round game of the Westmeath Senior Hurling ‘A’ Championship when they defeated St Oliver Plunkett’s by 11 points in TEG Cusack Park on Saturday evening last.
This was really a ‘David against Goliath’ contest as it saw last year’s senior hurling finalists The Gaels come up against last year’s Senior B winners St Oliver Plunkett’s. The gap between senior B and senior A is significant and despite Plunkett’s best efforts that gap was evident in this game.
