Kian Newcombe took to stage at the Samuel Beckett Theatre’s latest production of the Irish National Youth Ballet’s (INYB) 30th anniversary performances.
Kian (13), took to the stage in ‘The Nutcracker’ from Friday, 6 December until Sunday, 8 December, securing his place on the show against tough competition from talented ballet dancers across the country.
Proud father, Derek Newcombe, told Topic: “We were all very happy and all the comments he got were very positive from the audience. His smile and stage presence was unbelievable for his age. He seemed to be really enjoying it.”
“The other boys in the group were great but the girls were outstanding and I think he learned a lot from them. They are nearly at professional standard.”
Attention now turns to 2025, which Derek acknowledged will be important as Kian, a member of Mullingar Shamrocks GAA, matures.
“The next few years are going to be some of the most important in his life,” commented Derek. In the next three years, boys progress really quickly. They are the key years. He will go back to Energy Plus School of Dance with Anne Marie Bentick shortly.
After Christmas, Kian will be back with the Irish National Youth Ballet (INYB) followed by intensive programmes in the UK for the summer.
