Nell McCafferty spent much time in Westmeath

Journalist, author and feminist campaigner Nell McCafferty, who passed away on Wednesday, 21 August, spent much time at the Westmeath home of her friend, the late broadcaster Marian Finucane.

One particular visit which came to light following McCafferty’s passing, was a meeting of activists in the early 1980s. Photos taken by Irish writer Eamon Somers captured the Tuesday Talkshop event which was organised under the National Gay Federation. The group camped at Marian Finucane’s house on the outskirts of Mullingar for the weekend which was as much a social gathering as it was a political meeting.
