What were you like as a child?
I was the eldest in my family of four and have two sisters and a brother. I was always the quiet one, the serious one and always had my head stuck in a book. I joined the library at whatever age you could join the library. I can remember being in the Market House going in and using the card to get books back then.
As well as that we used to create little plays and put them on the back garden and the old flannelette sheets were the curtains and our costumes and we’d have dolls too. We’d go from garden to garden putting on plays.
There was that creativity from a very young age. I always remember reading, doing that bit of drama and playing with dolls.
My parents are Kathleen and Willie Ward. I am very close to my parents; they were always there and were a constant in our lives; they still are. None of us moved away and we all live in Mullingar.
