The standing orders of the first Mullingar–Kinnegad Municipal District meeting of 2025 on Monday, 13 January were suspended so members could discuss the closure of the sub post office on Austin Friars Street.
Last week, An Post announced that the service would close because a new postmaster could not be identified. District Mayor, Cllr Ken Glynn, proposed that the Chamber should write to An Post to appeal to them to reverse the decision. The Fianna Fáil councillor said that Deputy Robert Troy had contacted Minister of State with responsibility for Post Policy, James Lawless, about the matter along with An Post. Cllr Glynn said it is a “huge concern” that there is now only one post office in Mullingar.
