A fine first-half performance from the Westmeath Under 20 football team was to come undone after the break as Dublin advanced to the knockout stages of the provincial championship following an eight-point win in Parnell Park, Donnycarney, Dublin, last Wednesday evening, 9 April. Goals from Skerries Harps forward, Paddy Kelly, brought the Dubs back into an opening period where they were second-best but despite the Westmeath lead going into the dressing rooms, it was the home side who prevailed, winning the second-half 0-16 to 1-3.
