Troy launches re-election bid with Minister Chambers in support

Fianna Fáil TD, Robert Troy launched his bid for re-election on Friday, 25 October at the Mullingar Park Hotel for the upcoming General Election.

Joining Deputy Troy at the event was Minister for Finance, Jack Chambers TD.

The well-attended event was addressed by Deputy Troy, who pledged to continue his commitment to the communities right across the constituency of Longford Westmeath.

Deputy Troy, who along with his time at Dáil Éireann, has been in public office for two decades since he was first elected to Westmeath County Council in 2004, thanked all of his supporters who attended and have worked with him over that period and joked that the room was not so full in 2004.

He referenced what he considered some of his achievements over the last five years, including his advocacy for the MRI Scanner in Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar and how he helped get the new Dementia Daycare Centre over the line.

Minister Chambers also spoke, advocating Deputy Troy and his re-election bid. He said: “Robert is a good friend and a brilliant colleague. More importantly, he is an incredible public representative for the county.”

He continued: “In community development, just last month the largest ever budget was allocated to sports clubs all over Westmeath as part of the Sports Capital Programme.

“I know Robert had been championing these projects and was instrumental in helping many of these clubs. I know this funding is of enormous benefit to communities and particularly young people here in the county.”
