Regrets abound after Westmeath’s two-point defeat by Kildare, in the Leinster Senior Football Championship semi-final, at Croke Park last Sunday, where a plethora of missed opportunities cost the Lake County a place in the provincial decider.
Two second half goals paved the way for Kildare’s victory, but only after a tremendous effort by a courageous, but profligate Westmeath side, whose obstinate refusal to throw in the towel must be admired. Ultimately, it was Kildare’s superior goal threat that got them through, albeit after a massive scare as they were held to just five scores in the second half.
