Christmas is just around the corner. They say it is the quiet time of the year in the GAA, but in the GAA calendar, whether it is the split season, the new season or the old season, it is never quiet.
The Westmeath GAA County Convention is on this Thursday evening and finances are certainly going to come up for debate as Westmeath GAA are facing a major financial challenge. Gate receipts were down over €100,000 in the past year. On top of that Westmeath GAA paid over €1.2 million in team administration costs for the county teams – the senior football management and back room team accounting for €144,000 of that cost while the senior hurling hurling management and backroom team accounted for €128,000 of that cost. Overall Westmeath GAA operated with a loss of €70,000.
