Young Mullingar artist to feature on iconic calendar

A talented young artist from All Saint’s National School, Mullingar, has yet again been chosen to be included in the 2025 calendar of Texaco Children’s Art Competition.

Nicholas Glynn (8), drew the prizewinning artwork, entitled ‘Lost Little Lambs (Moate Park, Roscommon),’ which will appear during the month of April and will be seen in thousands of homes throughout Ireland during the coming year.

A keen artist, Nicholas is used to receiving accolades in a Texaco Art Competition. His 2024 entry, ‘A Misty Day (Venice)’ also appeared on the month of April for the previous calendar, and he won a Special Merit Award in 2022.

Proud mother, Jean Smyth said: “It was a lovely surprise. He enjoys drawing. It keeps him busy in the mornings and he will tell you himself he likes painting. Whatever keeps him happy.”

Nicholas commented: “I feel good. It was a good picture to do so I just did it. I draw at home and I draw pictures of ships and cars and stuff like that.”

Asked how he would spend his prize money, Nicholas revealed he had already treated himself, and his brothers William and Michael to some pre-Christmas presents.

“I got soccer kits,” said Nicholas, who bought himself the kit of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr. “William got Inter Miami with Messi and Michael got Manchester City with Haaland.”

Texaco Children’s Art Competition calendars are currently available through a select number of Texaco service stations.

The Texaco Children’s Art Competition is popularly regarded as the longest-running sponsorship in the history of arts sponsoring in Ireland, with an unbroken history that dates back to the very first Competition held in 1955.
