Tyrrellspass man takes the reins at Lidl France

A Tyrrellspass businessman has taken leadership of Lidl France, in doing so leaving his post as the CEO for Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland.

J.P. Scally, who took over as Chief Executive Officer of Lidl France at the start of August, has split his career between France and Ireland.

Scally was previously the Operations Director for three years at Lidl France before returning home to Ireland to take up his first CEO position which he had held since 2015.

The appointment marks a return to Lidl France for Scally, where he will be responsible for more than 1,600 stores and 46,000 employees. Lidl’s French operation is the German discount supermarket’s second-largest market, after Germany.

In the past, Scally worked in the Mullingar branch of Lidl as a Regional Director from 2008-2012.

A son of the late Paddy and Mary Scally from Newtown, Tyrrellspass, J.P. is a former student of Mercy Secondary School, Kilbeggan.

Commenting on his work with Lidl Ireland and Northern Ireland, Scally said: “Leading the organisation in Ireland and Northern Ireland over the past nine years has been the greatest privilege of my career.

“I have worked alongside a remarkably talented team of 7,000 plus colleagues and I am forever grateful to them for their support, dedication and camaraderie that has made my role so enjoyable.

“Together we have achieved incredible milestones that we will always be proud of.”

Scally continued: “For my part, I will focus on my new mission as CEO of Lidl France, with great challenges to take on.

“I can’t wait to reunite with all the teams to take Lidl France to new heights.”
