Westmeath County Councillor, Aengus O’Rourke, has said he wasn’t surprised Fianna Fáil belatedly added a third electoral candidate for the Longford-Westmeath constituency, just three months after he withdrew his own candidacy.
Cllr O’Rourke, the son of former Deputy Leader of Fianna Fáil, the late Mary O’Rourke, said political parties were under “a lot of pressure” to “achieve the 40% gender quota,” and that there “was not a place” for him.
