A night dedicated to celebrating the life of the late David Bowe will be taking place at The Barn, Tyrrell-spass this Friday, 19 February.
John Gavin and co-organiser Niamh Sheridan decided to hold a tribute to David Bowie after the huge outpouring of grief following his death in January. “I think of all the great artists who died in my lifetime, I never saw anyone’s death have such an effect as David Bowie’s had. It seems to have an audience from people in their twenties right up to their seventies.” Mr Gavin told Topic.
He said that when he suggested a tribute to the icon, the support he received was overwhelming. “We’ve sold tickets as far as Tipperary and Galway. There will be 120 people attending and tickets are selling out very fast. His music was fantastic and it had such variety. We want to get people excited about it. It’s a party to celebrate the man and his music and that’s what it’s all about. We’ll have the music arranged to get the night off to an exciting start.”
DJ Mike Sheeran will play David Bowie’s music exclusively and there will a visual effects display in honour of the singer’s dazzling performances. “The guests will be able to have the famous red and blue lightening bolt painted on their faces by face-painters. There will also be ‘Bowie cocktails’ available which will be red and blue,” added Mr. Gavin.
Mr. Gavin said the tribute wouldn’t have been possible without the help of Peter Deegan and the Barn. “The Barn in Tyrrellspass is a great addition to the village. It was developed from the restoration of a couple of old barns behind Willie’s Barn. It’s a brilliant venue. It’s something the village didn’t really have before. It has great high ceilings and good ventilation and has a great lay-out. If it wasn’t for the Barn we didn’t really have a place we could run it in.”
Proceeds will go to the purchase of a Christmas Tree for the town next Christmas which will be a permanent structure. Tickets are €10. For more information contact John on 0868271538 or Niamh on 0861211562.
