“Today was about getting over the line. The lads showed a bit of grit and spirit in the final few minutes to get the win and that was crucial today,” said St Loman’s manager Paddy Dowdall after he had watched his side come through a tense, tough opening round game of the Leinster Club Championship where St Loman’s beat Wexford champions Shelmaliers by two points on Sunday last in TEG Cusack Park.
St Loman’s had struggled to find their rhythm against a dogged, cumbersome Shelmaliers, who came back into the game by scoring a late penalty, but Westmeath champions St Loman’s Mullingar held on for victory to set up a quarter final meeting with Longford champions Killoe, on Sunday week, the Longford team managed by former St Loman’s manager Luke Dempsey.
