Those who say that Mullingar has gone to pot may finally have a point. An amateur botanist recently alerted Topic to a ‘flower power’ movement who have been growing cannabis plants in full view of the public in flower beds throughout the town.
Scores of Gardaí and other high flyers walk past the main drag on Dominick Square daily, oblivious that the attractive flower displays have mysteriously become the highest point in town. Among the flowers lurk thriving cannabis or hemp plants, growing away in the balmy summer sun. Large clumps of the plants were mysteriously removed a few weeks ago, but the recent spell of balmy weather has ensured that the remaining seedlings burst into life recently.
Topic has alerted the authorities and we believe a joint operation between local Gardai and the Council is underway to roll up information on the weed.
