It was announced last weekend that the Westmeath Examiner newspaper and the other newspapers in the Celtic Media Group, are being purchased by Independent News and Media (INM) with the sale subject to approval by the Competition and Consumer Protection Authority and Communications Minister, Denis Naughton.
INM, whose largest shareholders are businessmen Denis O’Brien and Dermot Desmond, has major media interests in Ireland and elsewhere and owns the Irish Independent, Sunday Independent, Sunday World, The Herald and The Star, as well as a group of thirteen Irish regional newspapers in nine counties, and several free newspapers.
