When Julie and Aidan met Roger Moore

By Paul O’Donovan

The death of film star Roger Moore last week brought back many memories for film buffs of the great James Bond films. Many people recalled watching the all action Bond movies, where Roger Moore became famous.
For one Mullingar family, however, their memories of Roger Moore were more vivid. When Julie Fivey Keena and her son Aidan Keena were in London last November, they had the pleasure of meeting the famous film star in Heathrow Airport.
Julie said, “My son Aidan was travelling over for a football trial with Brentford and we were going through Heathrow Airport when I spotted this man in a wheelchair. I turned around and said to Aidan, that is Roger Moore. At just 18 years of age Aidan wasn’t quite sure who Roger Moore was, but his mother quickly explained he had played the character of James Bond for many years.
Julie and Aidan went over to Roger Moore, who was with his wife, and they said Roger was a gentleman. “He asked us where we were travelling and was very nice to us,” said Julie, who said she had enjoyed all of the James Bond movies and was delighted to meet Roger Moore.
