The crowds came out in their droves to join in in the excitement of The Midlands National & The Sustainable Style Ladies Day at Kilbeggan Racecourse last Friday, 12 July.
The big race sponsored by Dermot and Conor Kilmurray of Kilmurray’s Homevalue Hardware Mullingar didn’t disappoint. The €100,000 Grade B race saw the locally owned Ida’s Boy for Michael O’Leary and Gigginstown Stud and trained by Noel Meade get the better of Amirite, trained by Henry de Bromhead and Tullybeg, trained by Gordon Elliott, in a crack- ing finish. It gave Meade his third winner of the prestigious race.
Earlier in the card, Gordon Elliott’s The Wallpark won The Writech Handicap Hurdle. It was a memorable evening’s racing with 8 races on the card and a tough card it was too, leaving the punters with some mixed results.
The Ladies Day Competition didn’t disappoint. The judge on the day was Mullingar lady Sarah Jane Foster, who had the very difficult job of picking a winner from the hundreds of ladies who turned up to take part. Sarah Jane delivered in style when she chose Katie Moran as this year’s winner. Katie was delighted to have been chosen and she walked away with a prize worth over €5,000, including a €2,000 cash prize.
