More late night violence in town

Serious late night violent incidents on a Mullingar street last Saturday night-Sunday morning, August 18/19, at around 2.45am, involving a group of young people, resulted in two men being seriously assaulted and removed to Mullingar Regional Hospital, where one was found to have a fractured skull.
The two young men who were hospitalised had been socialising in Mullingar, according to Garda reports, and had left a local nightclub. The two were from the Collinstown and Delvin areas, and were intending to get a taxi home, but they were confronted by a group of young men, and it is understood that one man was the main target and the other was struck by a bottle during the fracas.
The Gardai in Mullingar confirmed that at 2am on Sunday morning, 19 August, they went to the A & E at Mullingar Regional Hospital, where four women and two men said they had been injured as a result of a fight at a night club in Mullingar. They were believed to be from the Mullingar and Rochfortbridge areas, and some of those injured may have been under the influence of alcohol.
About 45 minutes later, at 2.45am, the Gardai were informed of another fight, down Meeting House Lane, and two Garda cars and members of the Community Police went to the scene.
It appears the second incident was over when the Gardai and ambulance personnel arrived at the scene and a 21 years old man was discovered with head injuries and was brought by ambulance to hospital, where his condition was later described as ‘stable’.
A second man subsequently appeared at the scene and it appeared he had been struck on the head by a beer bottle.
The man was brought to the hospital by Garda car, as the ambulance had left and it was found that the man had a fractured skull. It is understood that he is recovering in hospital.
An area of Meeting House Lane, Mullingar, the pedestrian lane which links Oliver Plunkett Street and Blackhall (across from the Social Welfare Offices), and an adjoining part of Blackhall Street, was cordoned off and preserved by the Gardai afterwards until 9am on Sunday morning. The cordoned off area was visited and examined by Scenes of Crimes officers during the early morning,

Violent scenes, at Blackhall Street, beside Meeting House Lane which were recorded on a cameraphone, and shared on Facebook, showed both males and females at the scene of an incident at Blackhall, and blows being struck by young men. They also showed one man lying on the ground and apparently being dragged by the legs after he had been struck by another.
A man could be seen running from the scene in another clip. The injured man remained lying on the ground, and before the clip ended, it showed someone examining the injured man on the ground, and shouting for an ambulance.
We understand that the Gardai are seeking to establish whether or not the incidents in the Blackhall area had any link with the earlier fracas in the town reported to them.
It appears that several females who went to Mullingar Hospital at about 2am on Sunday morning claimed that they had been injured in another violent incident, and that up to six people were involved in this.
Gardai have been examining CCTV recordings from the area to help their enquiries, and they have ecouraged anyone who witnessed the street fighting after night clubs in the town closed to come forward to assist them, or to call them at 044-93084000.
