Next year, the Franciscan Friary in Multyfarnham will be the scene of a very special anniversary in its history, when the Order will celebrate the 750th anniversary of the opening of their monastery in Multyfarnham in the 1200s, not very long after the death of the Order’s founder, St. Francis of Assisi.
According to the noted Franciscan historian in his history of Franciscan foun- dations, Fr. Hugh Ward, the monastery in Multyfarnham was “supposed to have been founded in 1270, and formerly placed in the custody of Drogheda.”
