Former Fermanagh manager, Pete McGrath is just one of the high profile names being linked with the vacant Westmeath senior football manager’s position this week, after the County Board set up a committee to find a successor to Tom Cribbin.
The committee, appointed at last Wednesday’s County Board meeting in TEG Cusack Park, will begin work immediately and the target is to have a manager in place by the knock-out stages of the Senior Football Championship. County Board Chairman, Sean Sheridan and Secretary, James Sav- age will be joined by their Football Committee counterparts, Dermot Fox and Alan McCormack on the selection committee. Joining them is Vice-Chair- man, Billy Foley, while the clubs put forward Seamus McLoughlin (Moate All Whites) and Gerry Coyne (CFCW) to represent them. It’s believed McGrath was one of the early targets, but there are major complications involved since he would have to commute long journeys from Down. Nevertheless, he comes with an impressive track record and would be just the kind of senior figure the county needs at the moment.
