“We did everything right but we are still closed” - Salon owner says industry is being treated unfairly

By Claire Corrigan

The Government is set to reopen hairdressers from the first week in May, but may initially limit access to fully vaccinated people it was announced this month and this week, Topic spoke to a local salon owner about her views regarding this approach, and pointed out how unfairly their industry and other similar ones have been treated, when compared with those who are open.

Terry Vitale who owns Versatile Hair Studio, Dominick Street said there is talk of a “soft opening for vaccinated people only” though nothing has been confirmed yet. “My opinion is that it’s most unfair. I’m not vaccinated myself and I have to tell other non-vaccinated people not to come in. I am happy for those who are vaccinated believe me, my own parents are in this category and its brilliant but I still feel its unfair to those who have not been vaccinated as this is out of their control and we feel like we are punishing them.
