There was great joy at St Camillus, Killucan, on 8 September, when the popular Camillian priest, Fr Denis Sandham, celebrated the Golden Jubilee of his priesthood. Surrounded by family and friends Denis gave thanks to God for the grace of Jesus’ presence and guidance in his life over his fifty years of priesthood.
His entire priestly ministry was carried between Killucan and hospital chaplaincy work in Dundee, Blanchardstown Hospital, St Vincent’s, the Mater and Blanchardstown. In these places his approach to caring for the sick and staff became legendary. He always saw his ministry as being much broader than simply administering the Sacraments, as he set out to bring the compassionate presence of Christ to the sick and suffering. He was always available to work alongside the nurses and doctors in his efforts to make sure that the patients received total care.
