In order to gauge the extent of the heroin problem in a standard country town, Topic reporter Ronan Casey spent a day in Mullingar with ‘Paddy’ (not his real name), a 40-year-old who has been addicted to heroin since the age of 29.
‘Paddy’ painted a haunting picture of life as a drug addict and a homeless person in Mullingar. He only agreed to talk to Topic as he desperately wants to kick his habit as he reckons he is in “last chance saloon.”
