On 14 October 1996, Aidan and Delia Mulligan opened the doors of The Spiced Bean Cafe on Mary Street and twenty five years on, they continue to serve the people of Mullingar with great food, a very warm welcome and always with a smile!

Top recognition for Ballinagore’s Shane King

In mid-April of this year, Topic highlighted the efforts of young Shane King, from Ballinagore,  who is now a third year student in Mercy Secondary School, Kilbeggan. Shane en­tered the Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) 2021 competition in which he had to produce and edit a three minute video report based on an environment topic, and send it to local audiences through different media outlets.

Mullingar’s new bus service will not go through estates

The proposed new local bus service for the town of Mullingar caused a lively discussion at Monday’s Municipal District Council meeting, with assurances sought that the proposed bus service will not involve buses through housing estates, and no definite indication as yet of when the service might begin.

Mullingar students and teachers set to sleep out in aid of Focus Ireland

On this Friday, 15 October, a group of 20 TY Students and 4 teachers from Mullingar Community College will spend the night sleeping out in the school grounds to ‘Shine A Light’ for Focus Ireland and in doing so, raise awareness of homelessness in Ireland. 

Mullingar is Garda headquarters for new Meath-Westmeath Division

At Monday’s Joint Policing Committee which was attended by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris, the fact was clarified that Mullingar Garda Station will be the headquarters for the new amalgamation of the Meath and Westmeath divisions.
