Councillors agree to develop county lake strategy

A Westmeath County Councillor has asked the council to develop a countywide lake strategy as summer beckons. Cllr Emily Wallace brought forward the motion to develop a lake strategy at the Mullingar Kinnegad District meeting on Monday, 8 April. The council’s executive replied: “The District and the Environment Section are preparing for the 2024 summer season. Additional resources will be provided at our lakes and amenity areas, in line with recent increases in their respective budgets.”

Fine Gael’s Cllr Wallace said: “I have said that we should put together a coordinated approach and have a strategy for how we deal with and manage the lakes, not just at the summer time but throughout, particularly now while we are approaching the summer months
