Hope is coming from Italy…

by Paul O’Donovan
Last week Chantel De Seta, a Mullingar woman (nee Brady), living with her husband and child in Lombardy, an hour east of Milan, told Topic of the terrible scenes in Italy resulting from the coronavirus epidemic. Chantel explained about the rising number of deaths and the growing number of cases in their area.
She explained how the country had gone into lockdown and described the severe and extraordinary impact the virus was having on everyone’s life.
This week, Chantel has slightly more positive news as the numbers of deaths and Italian cases look to be in decline.
Chantel told Topic this Tuesday, 24 March “We are now on Day 16 of lockdown and we’re finally starting to have some hope. We’ve had two days of declining cases of those infected and dying. Numbers are still very high, but we are more positive.”
The lockdown has become even more serious . All walkways are bordered off so there’s no way people can go for walks. You must stay at home. There is no update on when this will end, but every day at 6pm, we hear the results of the testing and unfortunately details of the deaths. The experts are saying we need to see 4 to 5 days of consecutive declines in numbers before they can say it is trending down.
So it is still horrific for all the families here, just so sad, but we are doing everything we can to stay positive and hope the end is in sight,” explained Chantel, who thankfully along with her husband Dario, daughter Maya and her father Ross have all remained in good health.
