Once again this year, a suite of music and colour is set to take over the majestic settings of Charleville Castle, Tullamore when Castlepalooza 2016 gets under way.
Taking place from 1 to 3 July, Castlepalooza Music & Arts festival offers a unique opportunity to set foot inside a beautiful Medieval castle, walk through its restored rooms and unwind in front of the roaring fires.
Ticket holders have exclusive daily access inside the castle where there are art and film exhibitions; workshops and some surprise performances. Visitors have access to The Courtyard throughout the weekend.
This year’s line-up is the festival’s best yet, with a host of musical talent from home and abroad set to arrive at Charleville Castle for three days of summer fun.
Included in this year’s line-up are Caribou, Cat Power, Jurassic 5 and Villagers, to name but a few.
CARIBOU
Dan Snaith’s Canadian outfit Caribou is regarded as one of the most iconic and recognisable names on the contemporary electronic circuit. Having followed up 2010’s universally adored album ‘Swim’ with the Grammy nominated UK top-ten chart album ‘Our Love’ in 2014, Caribou have spent the last two years touring the world. Their live shows are energetic and immersive experiences. The sound of Caribou sold out stages everywhere (Brixton Academy – London), Olympia – Paris, Columbiahalle – Berlin, Sydney Opera House) and provided the most thrilling festival headline slots of the season (Primavera, Field Day, Parklife, Coachella). 2016 will see Caribou return to the big stages on a few selected festivals in Europe. The line up finds Dan joined onstage by Ryan Smith, Brad Weber and John Schmersal.
CAT POWER
Six years after her last album of original material, Chan Marshall has moved on from her collaborative forays into Memphis soul and Delta blues. She wrote, played, recorded and produced the entirety of SUN by herself, a statement of complete control that is echoed in the songs’ themes.
Lyrically, Marshall has transcended the angst and self-absorption of her young self, but is still inspired by youth; much of the album That’s Clean Maids is a plea for overcoming societal expectation and individual oppression.
