Public treated to magnificent display at Culture Night 2014

The cream of the local artistic scene was on display last Friday, 19 September, as Culture Night 2014 got underway across Mullingar and its surrounding towns and villages.
Now in its twelfth year, Culture Night has grown from a Dublin-only event to nationwide, with the midlands and Westmeath no exception.
In Mullingar, it wasn’t a case of Culture Night but rather Culture Day with many events commencing in the afternoon.
Such was the case at the newly-opened Chimera Gallery on Spoutwell Lane, which had a steady flow of visitors throughout the day. On the display at the gallery were eye-catching marble cake sculptures by Moate-based Tanya Ross. The same venue also hosted a live painting demonstration by locally-renowened artist, Anna Marie Leavy as well as an exhibition of works by artist Cormac O’Leary.
The market square in Mullingar’s town centre came alive with an array of dance performances by various dance academies while at the Greville Arms Hotel, a harp recital was on offer to the public by Mullingar Harp School.
Once again at the County Buildings, the Midlands Youth Orcesrtra entertained the attendees, with recitals ranging from cinematic themes to classical anthems.
