Grammy-nominated mandolinist Avi Avital and accordionist Ksenija Sidorova are set to delight Mullingar audiences at All Saints Church this Saturday, 25 April.
Promoted by Mullingar Arts Centre, this is a diverse programme of folk, classical and contemporary music taking the instruments beyond their folk roots. Making live music happen across the country, Music Network provides an opportunity to see some of the world’s foremost musicians at affordable prices, funded by the Arts Council.
Recognised by The New York Times for his “exquisitely sensitive playing” and “stunning agility,” in 2010 Avi Avital became the first mandolin player to receive a Grammy nomination in the category “Best Instrumental Soloist.” One of the world’s most adventurous musicians, he has captivated audiences across the globe with the sheer brilliance of his playing. His performances at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Centre and Berlin Philharmonie have brought international acclaim. Avital is deeply committed to building a fresh legacy for the mandolin through virtuosic performances across many genres.
He is joined at this concert by superstar accordionist Ksenija Sidorova, a keen promoter of the accordion. The young Latvian transfixes audiences with her delicate but staggeringly precise performances and transcriptions of Bach and Scarlatti. Sidorova has won numerous international competitions, made her Wigmore Hall debut in 2009, and has appeared with Vienna Chamber Orchestra and the Sinfonietta Riga.
Music Network’s mission is to make live music available and accessible to as many people as possible. Through their partnerships with local Music Education Partnerships, Avi and Ksenija will host a series of workshops for young musicians, connecting our work in music performance and music education with the aim of giving children and young people rich, holistic musical experiences.
Music Network tours are funded by the Arts Council and are presented in association with RTÉ Lyric fm. Tickets for this concert are available from €15/€12 and can be purchased by calling Mullingar Arts Centre on 044-9347777.
