The creative cream of seven local primary schools gathered in Mullingar Library last Wednesday, June 8, for the Rotary Young Writer Contest Awards. Competition organiser Donal Lawlor of Mullingar Rotary Club commended students, parents and staff for getting involved in the competition.
“Creative writing is like taking a picture but painting it with words – it allows young people to express themselves,” he said. “Last year, the theme was The Environment and the previous year it was Peace so when we heard the theme this year was Rebuilding, we were nervous that students wouldn’t engage but we were delighted with the response. It seems the theme really spurred people to use their imagination.”
