Fantastic Christmas concert ahead in Ballynacargy

Renowned musician Maurice Lennon has been confirmed for Friday’s Christmas concert in the Church of the Nativity, Ballynacargy, which promises to be a terrific evening’s entertainment as a cohort of All-Ireland champions get together.
Lennon, who famously played with top irish group Stockton’s Wing (an Irish group consisting of four All-Ireland champions, Lennon, Paul Roche, Tommy Hayes and Kieran Hanrahan), is no stranger to Ballynacargy having played there during the highly successful Westmeath Fleadh in 2013. In what should be an unforgettable night, Lennon will team up with the likes of Mickey Curran, Elaine Reilly, Daniel Boland and Ademar O’Connor.
“We’re really looking forward to the event and the entire committee has worked very hard to ensure everything is in place for Friday’s concert. Last year it was memorable and this year’s line-up is just fantastic,” remarked Ballynacargy CCÉ Chairman, Willie Penrose.
The Ballynacargy Comhaltas group has developed into one of the most successful in the country at this stage with well over 200 members and interest in classes continuing to grow. Members of the group will lend their skills to Friday’s event under the stewardship of Musical Director, Joe Connaire.
“They have been putting in many hours of work with Joe and there’s great commitment from everyone, which is wonderful to see. They are all keen on learning and improving and we are delighted to be giving all these young people the opportunity to play music and develop their skills,” commented the Chairman.
The concert, while focusing strongly on traditional Irish music, will also have a Christmas theme to it and talented local singer, Kerri Penrose will perform the classic, ‘O Holy Night’, just as she did last year.
The concert takes place in the beautiful setting of the Church of the Nativity, Ballynacargy and starts at 8pm. Admission on the night is €10 and tickets can be purchased from all committee members.
The concert will conclude at 10.30pm and afterwards there will be a major raffle in the nearby Parochial Hall. It will be followed by what promises to be a great seisiún in Halligan’s pub, Ballynacargy.
