Westmeath lasted the pace with Wexford hurlers for 50 minutes of last Sunday’s Allianz Hurling League Division 1 game in TEG Cusack Park, but the visitors pulled away in the last 20 minutes to record an 11-point victory.
As Westmeath manager Joe Fortune said afterwards: “These Westmeath players are not into moral victories, but there was an improvement out there from last week in Ennis. We did very well for 45 minutes, but we just need to sustain that intensity going forward.”
Westmeath were completely out of sorts and didn’t perform the previous Sunday against Clare where a sloppy display saw them lose by 25 points to The Banner.
