Like all those who have fled Ukraine over the past 12 months, Dmitriy Burian’s path to leaving his home country was anything but straightforward.
Dmitriy fled Ukraine in June 2022, travelling along Russia’s western border, before a team of volunteers assisted with his safe passage to Estonia. From Estonia, Dmitry flew to Ireland.
Originally from the southern city of Mariupol, he recalls with sadness the destruction of his home city, which has been occupied by Russian forces since May 2022. “It’s a really horrible war,” he said.
